Justice for TJ
Press Conference and Picket Alert - Justice for TJ
February 26, 2024, noon, Sir Winston Churchill Square, Edmonton AB
From February 26 to 28 a Fatality Review will investigate the death of Timothy McConnell (TJ) who died by suicide in the Edmonton Remand Centre (ERC) on Jan. 11, 2021. His mother Lana Greene obtained documents showing her son's attempts to get medication for his mental health conditions and substance use treatment from jail staff before his death, but his pleas for help were repeatedly ignored. TJ’s mother says negligent medical care inside the jail ultimately led to his death.
We demand accountability from the ERC
We demand full and equitable access to healthcare, including mental health and substance use care, in all federal and provincial prisons and jails and in remand centers.
We demand non-carceral alternatives for people with a mental health crisis and in need of substance use treatment!
We demand care not cuffs!
