Position Description and Requirements
The Organization
Moms Stop the Harm (MSTH) is a network of Canadian families impacted by substance use related harms and deaths. We advocate to end substance use related stigma, harms and death.
The Position
The Executive Director is responsible for overseeing the administration, programs and strategic planning for the organization. Other key duties include fundraising, marketing, and community outreach. Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, this position ensures that activities and programs align with the mission, vision and values of Moms Stop The Harm.
Primary Responsibilities
Board Governance
Report to, and work closely, with the Board of Directors in all organizational matters;
Participate in monthly board meetings;
Lead strategic planning and implementation of strategic goals and initiatives;
Plan for and develop the annual operating budget;
Liaison with the Board Executive Committee regarding tasks, responsibilities and decision-making;
Participate or chair subcommittees as required;
Review and report quarterly on strategic goals;
Other duties as assigned by the Board of Directors.
Policy, Funding & Marketing Development
Develop and direct organizational activities in alignment with the organizational strategy;
Draft and finalize policies and procedures according to MSTH mission, vision and values;
Develop and update promotional materials and respond to requests for promotional materials;
Research and apply for funding opportunities;
Engage in fundraising and develop other revenue sources;
Fiscal management within the approved budgets (society funding and grants), ensure resource utilization and maintenance of the organization remains in a positive financial position.
Administration, Communication & Organizational Development
Liaise with partner organizations and government bodies;
Serve as a point of contact for MSTH and communicate information and requests to the board and local advocates as needed;
Manage MSTH documents and files in accordance with relevant legislation and organizational requirements;
Ensure access to files based on roles (e.g., staff, board, active advocates);
Update and maintain resources and materials together with the communications committee (e.g., websites, social media, print materials, handbooks)
Develop MSTH annual reports and support the board in planning the annual general meeting;
Assist with the development of the annual operating budget with the finance committee;
Oversee the work of the MSTH bookkeeper to ensure payment of invoices and monthly financial reporting;
Provide support and supervision to employees and volunteers.
Program Supervision - Stronger Together BC and Canada
Provide support and supervision to Stronger Together (BC and Canada) program managers;
Ensure contractual obligations with national, provincial and local funding bodies are met;
Ensure annual reports and fiscal updates are provided to funders based on contractual agreements.
Qualifications and Requirements
Graduate degree or equivalent education and experience in social services, healthcare, drug policy reform and harm reduction;
Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communications skills, including the ability to communicate orally and in writing to member organizations, media, and other relevant parties;
Knowledge of government relations, and advocacy work, preferably as pertains to drug policy;
Knowledge of current research, trends and issues in drug policy;
Demonstrated ability to facilitate teams, build capacity, and engage a diverse range of stakeholders, including member families;
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as well as independently;
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a demanding work environment;
Proficiency in Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook), and online collaborative tools (Google Docs, Sheets, Drive, Slack);
Knowledge of databases (Better Impact) and use of web design templates (Squarespace) an asset;
The ability to communicate in French is considered an asset.

Position Details and Application Process
Location: This position is open to applicants from across Canada and remote work is required. MSTH is registered in Victoria, BC.
Hours of work: Regular business hours, four days per week. Some work may take place early in the morning, evening, or on the weekend.
Contract Position: Part-time (.8 FTE, 4 days per week) 12 months with the possibility of extension (funding dependent).
Salary: $55,000 to $60,000 annually depending on qualifications and experience (based on .8 FTE, FT salary would be $66,000 to 73,000).
